Rackstraw All Set for Cape 9 Hour

Andrew Rackstraw will continue his Audi theme for 2022 as he pilots the MJR Motorsport Audi Evo II GT3 car alongside Kwanda Mokoena and Luca Engstler for the Cape 9 Hour event this coming weekend.

The Cape Town boy will be loving the fact that he gets to round off his racing season of 2022 at his home track in what is one of his favourite events of the year. It will also be the first time he gets his hands on a current-generation GT3 car. Having competed in the 9 Hour in the previous 2 years, the goal will be to achieve a podium in class and finish as high up on the overall standings as possible.

It’s been a busy week for him as he jets back to South Africa today after spending 2 days away on a successful test session in an LMP3 car with Rinaldi Racing at the world-class Barcelona Grand Prix Circuit. The test was joined by fellow South African David Perel who is a very experienced GT3 racing driver. With that experience still fresh in his mind, Rackstarw will be eager to get down to the track to do all the introductions with the team and get his seat fitment done for what will be an exciting weekend of racing.

It’s a star-studded driver lineup which boasts strong claims for the team to wrap up the driver’s championship. All focus will be on helping Kwanda wrap it all up in style. Kwame Moekena feels they have the ability to do so and even more so with Rackstraw onboard.

“It’s a pleasure having someone who knows Kwanda and who shares a similar background of starting his career in karting. Rackstraw is highly competitive and his addition will make us the youngest team on the grid. This bodes well with the fact that the young boys are now stepping up after a long and illustrious karting career. So yes, I am very happy and excited to have Andrew join the team for the weekend.”

The young guns will be joined by an Audi Sport Driver and 8 times TCR Champion Luca Engstler who we mentioned earlier. His wealth of experience will be invaluable and it will help lift the whole team spirit. For someone like Rackstraw who is just starting to get exposed to the international scene, he will be relishing the opportunity to work alongside a fellow driver with so much experience.

“As the racing season comes to an end I look forward to ending it on a high at the Killarney 9 Hour.

The 9 Hour has always been one of my highlights throughout the year and I’m excited to be doing it with Kwanda and Luca.

We have an amazing driver lineup and are looking for a strong result.

From my side I want to personally thank the team for selecting me to race with them, it is a real honour.”
