Rackstraw’s Wet Rampage

Rackstraw’s Wet Rampage

Remember Formula VW? Of course you do. It’s Formula Ford on steroids, with cars that genuinely look closer to Formula 1 cars than anything else you’ll find on circuit in South Africa.
They sound absolutely incredible as well. It’s the stuff of goosebumps.
In an exciting development, a small group of Formula Libre drivers in Cape Town have purchased Formula VW cars and will be campaigning them at the front of the class.
Talented F1600 and karting star Andrew Rackstraw proved this weekend that red cars can still be fast, as he charged his way to victory with a driving demonstration that will leave his rivals scratching their heads.
In the wet conditions, he was completely untouchable. Rackstraw put his Formula VW on pole position by 7 seconds. Yes, you read that correctly.
Race 1 was ridiculous. There’s no other description. Rackstraw looked like he was in a different dimension to the rest of the field. After just a few laps, he very nearly was. The young driver absolutely demolished the field in the wet conditions, almost lapping the third-placed car. That’s extraordinary over a sprint race distance.
After sending a very clear message that he will not be beaten anytime soon in the wet, Rackstraw gambled in Race 2 to run on a wet setup and old tyres as there was an expectation of more rain. The rain didn’t come, but Rackstraw still crossed the line in P2 in a car that was setup for totally different conditions.
With P1 and P2 for the day, Rackstraw couldn’t wipe the smile off his face.
“I gained so much experience and I’m just excited for what the future holds!”
We are excited too, because a Carbs and Coffee sticker has never gone around Killarney so quickly.
“Huge thanks to RDSA for all the work they put into the car as well as the driver training”
If you are an open-wheel competitor in this country, you best believe that you will be spending time in the coming races staring at Rackstraw’s tailpipe. His pace is absolutely immense.
